The Black Hills and surrounding area offer a wealth of activities and events for everyone to enjoy. Below are just a few of the nearby offerings, as well as links to more attractions and upcoming events.

  • Motorcycling or touring by car on Highway 385 starts right out the front door and South Dakota’s many Scenic Byways are just minutes away.
  • The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is held every year on the Monday through Sunday after the first Saturday and Sunday of August; and we are conveniently located just 18 miles away from the action.
  • ATV and snowmobile lovers find our location works out great for riding right from the yards. Forest Service Trail 7 is adjacent to Cole Cabins and it connects to over 300 miles of other trails in the Black Hills system. Check out the South Dakota ATV/UTV Association for more information.
  • If you are from a state that doesn’t require your ATV’s to be road licensed, here is a link for that procedure: License ATVs
  • All ATV’s must have a trail permit. They can be purchased online here or at The Steel Wheel Trading Post just a 1/4 mile from us.
  • The Hotline for snowmobile trail and ski slope conditions is 1-800-445-3474.
  • We are thirty minutes from the ski slopes that are so popular at Terry Peak. Check out their website here: Terry Peak Ski Resort
  • The fishing is plentiful all throughout the Black Hills. Some stream fishing is within walking distance of Cole Cabins and Strawberry Lake is less than a mile away. Licenses are available at the Steel Wheel Trading Post just a mile down the road or through the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Dept.
  • Go biking on the Mickelson Trail which starts in Deadwood and follows historic rail lines for 114 miles with a maximum grade of 3 percent. It consists of a hard packed gravel surface with tunnels and trestles to add to the trail’s charm.
  • Hiking and horse back riding are also allowed on this and the many other trails of the region. T & M Trail Rides are located in the Nemo area. Call for information at 605-280-7934.
  • Golfers are in luck; there are plenty of birdies around the Tomahawk Country Club. It is located 1 mile south on Highway 385. There are at least 11 other golf courses open to the public in the Black Hills.
  • Concerts, casinos, night life and delicious dining experiences are available just 5 miles away in historic downtown Deadwood. If you want to dine or enjoy a few drinks just a little closer to the cabins then try out our neighbors, The Pub and Grub, a mile south of us, or Wild Bill’s Campground’s Bar and Grill.
